Cyber Security: Don’t Become a Statistic

Wednesday, October 18, 2017, 6:00pm – 8:30pm

IMPORTANT!! The regularly scheduled meeting day has been moved to the THIRD Wednesday to accommodate those members traveling to the 2017 National Women’s Leadership Conference!

Rodney Buckingham of Phoenix Computing Strategies will discuss the driving forces behind the growing regularity of cyber-crime and some practical things you can do to avoid becoming another statistic while still taking full advantage of all the web has to offer.

He will give a brief overview of security solutions available on the market today, but Rodney will focus primarily on social engineering exploits and how the everyday computer user is being targeted with increasing success using Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

After this meeting, you will have the knowledge to help you avoid falling prey to cyber criminals without giving up the Internet!

Rodney has worked in the IT industry since the early 1990s, back when UPS did not have a web address emblazoned on the sides of their trucks. He has watched the public Internet grow from a technophile’s toy to a powerful platform for business with a dark side. Now he works with businesses of all sizes to help them use technology to their advantage while keeping their employees cognizant of the threats it can bring.

With his business partner, Laura McCarthy, Rodney formed Phoenix Computing Strategies, LLC back in April of 2005. Based in Gambrills, MD they support small to mid-sized businesses with help desk, communications, on premises and cloud solutions crafted to deliver a business advantage to their clients. Through their partnership with KnowBe4, Phoenix Computing Strategies has taken their cyber-security training and readiness assessment capabilities to the next level.
